This is a beautiful vintage bedspread by JC Penney, 1993. Note: there is one tiny spot on the top edge that looks like black Magic marker ink and would not wash out – see the last photo. That was the only spot found.
This is a damask weave and is therefore reversible if desired. The last 3 photos show glimpses of the reverse side. It is a raised damask weave and looks similar to Matelasse. The tag says 100% Cotton. The style name is “Georgian” and the color is “Colonial Rose”. It is labeled as Full Sized / Double. It could work on a full sized or a Queen bed, depending on how much of a side and end drop you want.
The spread measures 91″ wide x 105″ long. This includes the 7″ fringe that is on the sides and the end. The top is hemmed. The corners at the end are curved. The floral design block at center (everything up to the diamonds) measures 49″ wide x 57″ long. A full sized bed is 54″ wide x 75″ long. The table on which I took the photos is 50″ wide x 72″ long. On a full sized bed, you would have a drop of 18.5″ on the sides and end and 11.5″ extra at the top for a pillow tuck.
This fringed bedspread / coverlet has been freshly laundered (machine washed and dried) and is in very good, gently used, vintage condition with just the one small spot found. Typical for its age, there is some wear and softening of the fibers. The fringe is a tiny bit scrunchy and tangled. There is some light, scattered, pilling – a result of friction when washed in too small of a machine. I removed most of it on the front side, but I’m sure I missed some. The fibers interlock and the tiny specks of fiber have to be picked off. It does no harm to leave them or to pick them off. It is heavy, weighing about 6 pounds without packaging.
